CINCINNATI--With students returning to the University of Cincinnati campus for the fall quarter, the Bearcats played before record crowds at Gettler Stadium, Nippert Stadium, and Fifth Third Arena last week.

On Saturday night, the Bearcats football team won its seventh straight game by a count of 40-14 over Marshall. Playing before a partisan crowd of 35,097 fans at Nippert Stadium, the Bearcats improved to 4-0 with the win and cracked the Associated Press Top 25 Poll at No. 24 the following day.

Friday night, the men's soccer team opened defense of its 2006 BIG EAST Conference Red Division title with a 2-1 win over Georgetown. In the opening night of the UC United Student Section, located field-level next to the goals on each end, a Gettler Stadium-record 1,289 spectators were on hand for the first win of the BIG EAST season. The men's soccer program's previous attendance record was 984, set on Oct. 8, 2005 for a match between No. 5 St. John's and No. 17 Cincinnati. In the first half of the BIG EAST soccer twinbill, the women's soccer match between UC and Louisville that went to double overtime was witnessed by 631 fans.

The Bearcats' volleyball matchup with No. 2 Stanford on Sept. 12 drew quite a crowd as the official attendance for the evening was 912. The mark was a historical one for UC as it represented the second-highest attendance at a Bearcats volleyball match. The record was set on Oct. 3, 1995 when 1,180 were onhand for a Cincinnati-Xavier confrontation.
