CINCINNATI-- University of Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk has been named the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 52-23 romp at San Diego State.
A graduate transfer from Wake Forest, Mauk directed touchdown drives on six of Cincinnati's first seven possessions with his lone interception serving as the only miscue of the first half. The Kenton, Ohio product completed 17-of-23 passes for 257 yards, with an interception and four touchdowns against the Aztecs.
In the second quarter, Mauk completed 9-of-14 pass attempts for 189 yards and touchdowns of 11, 4, 80, and 11 yards. He finished the night with 36 yards on three rushing attempts.
Through four games, Mauk is currently fourth in the nation in pass efficiency at 183.71. He has completed 56-of-80 passes (70.0 percent) for 777 yards. Mauk has tossed nine touchdowns and has only two interceptions. In three seasons at Wake Forest, he appeared in 18 games and totaled four touchdown passes.
With Mauk and Dustin Grutza already named Offensive Player of the Week, Cincinnati is the first team to have two different quarterbacks win the award since R.J. Anderson and Troy Nunes did it for Syracuse in 2001. Mauk leads the No. 20/24 Bearcats into Rutgers Stadium to face the No. 21/21 Scarlet Knights in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPN 2.
