TEEING OFF: On the heels of two challenging tournaments to start the fall season, the University of Cincinnati women's golf team heads west this weekend to take part in the Hawkeye Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa. Following Top 10 finishes in a pair of tough fields, the Bearcats enter this weekend's event as the third-highest ranked team competing, according to the current Golfweek rankings. The 54-hole event will be staged at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: A 13-team field will battle for the 34th annual Hawkeye Invitational title at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa. Action gets underway on Saturday, Oct. 6 with 36 holes of action, with the final 18 set for one day later. The tournament field with current Golfweek rankings includes: Chattanooga (62), Cincinnati (84), Creighton (182), Iowa (63), Jacksonville State (109), Longwood (122), Minnesota (94), Northern Iowa (130), North Dakota State (191), South Dakota State (169), UT-San Antonio (135), Western Illinois (202) and Wisconsin (48). Iowa is the three-time defending champion of the event, having won by 10 shots over Missouri State last year.

THE LINE-UP: A mix of experience and youth once again make up Cincinnati's line-up, as two seniors, one junior and two freshmen hold the positions. Hillery Wilson (75.8) and Bambee Dela Paz (77.0), ranked 1-2 on the squad in average occupy the top two slots. Joining the duo will be senior Allison Mayborg (80.3), junior Marianne Erb (80.0) and freshman Kate Moore (79.7). This week will also mark the collegiate debut of redshirt freshman Katelyn Hiller, a native of West Des Moines, Iowa.

LAST TIME OUT: Senior Hillery Wilson shot a team-best round of 75, helping the Bearcats hold onto eighth place in the final standings at the Wolverine Invitational. Play wrapped up at the University of Michigan Golf Course, with Notre Dame overcoming a round two, two-shot deficit to take the tournament victory by four over the host Wolverines. Wilson ended the tournament in a tie for 15th with a score of 231. She missed a Top 10 finish by only three shots. Freshmen Bambee Dela Paz and Kate Moore both finished in the Top 35 for Cincinnati. Dela Paz's final round 83 pushed her to 32nd in the standings, while Moore shot an 80 to end up tied for 35th.

COMING UP NEXT: After the Hawkeye Invitational, the Bearcats will return to the friendly links at Elks Run in Batavia for a three-team battle with IUPUI and Ohio. Tee times will kick off at 12:30 p.m. The event is one of two tournaments at Elks Run on UC's schedule as they prepare for the 2008 BIG EAST Championship, also scheduled to be played at the Batavia Course.
