IOWA CITY, Iowa---Senior Hillery Wilson grabbed her first Top 10 finish of the year, helping the University of Cincinnati women's golf team advance to third place in the team standings at the Hawkeye Invitational. The tournament ended on Sunday at the Finkbine Golf Course.
Wilson shot a final round score of 76 to jump from 10th to sixth on the final individual leaderboard. With a three-round score of 228, Wilson finished in a three-way tie for sixth and was just one shot away from fourth place.
The Bearcats jumped from fifth to third in the team standings on the final day of play. Cincinnati's total of 312 was the third-best round of the day and helped the squad jump past Jacksonville State and Iowa into third. Chattanooga ran away with the team title with a score of 909, 19 shots better than Wisconsin. Wisconin's Katie Elliott was individual medalist with a 217, six shots better than Chattanooga's Emme deGroot.
"The golf tough played very tough this weekend and I talked to the team about patience and respect for the course all weekend," UC head coach Janet Carl said. "I'm proud of their level of commitment. We posted one of the top performances today and the final scores reflect the strength of this team." Freshman Bambee Dela Paz just missed her first career Top 10, shooting a 78 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 11th.
The Bearcats are back in action on Oct. 19, hosting a three-way match with IUPUI and Ohio. Tee times at Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia will get underway at 12:30 p.m.
