NORMAL, Ill.---Freshman Joe Kastelic shot a final round 71, helping the University of Cincinnati men's golf team to a seventh place finish at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. The tournament concluded on Monday at the Weibring Golf Club.
Kastelic narrowly missed his second Top 10 finish of the year, coming home in a tie for 12th with a total of 215. UC's true freshman and team leader in average finished just one shot out of 10th.
Behind a course record 63 from individual medalist Chris DeForest, Illinois ran away with the team title, outdistancing Southern Illinois by 17 strokes. The Fighting Illini finished with a score of 837. UC was seventh with an 884, five shots behind sixth place Eastern Illinois.
Junior Blake Tucker matched his round two score of 73 in the finale, to end the tournament with a score of 220. UC day one leader Ryan Cahill slipped to a tie for 30th in the final rundown with a score of 221.
After a busy start to the fall season, the Bearcats will now be idle until Oct. 22-23 when they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. for the F&M Bank Intercollegiate.
