CINCINNATI-- The Cincinnati Bearcats head into Saturday's football game at Pittsburgh ranked No. 23 in the first Bowl Championship Series poll released today.
The BCS poll is used to select the national champion in college football by pitting the top 10 teams in the BCS rankings against each other in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, FedEx Orange Bowl and BCS National Championship Game.
The BCS Ranking is done by using a formula that takes into account a team's average ranking in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' Polls along with a computer ranking average from six polls around the country. The six computer ranking providers are Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe. Each computer ranking accounts for schedule strength within its formula.
Coming off a 28-24 setback against Louisville that snapped the second longest winning streak in the country at nine games, Cincinnati (6-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) moved to No. 23 in both this week's Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' Poll.
Kickoff for Saturday's matchup between the Bearcats and Panthers is set for Noon. The action from Heinz Field is being televised locally courtesy of CinCW and ESPN Regional Television.
