CINCINNATI -- Renee Hein (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) has decided to leave the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team to focus on her dream of competing in high jump at the 2008 Olympics, head coach J. Kelley Hall announced today. The fifth-year senior joined the women's basketball squad after completing her eligibility with the track and field team.
"We expected Renee to see significant playing time for us," said Hall. "At the same time, we understand Renee's goals outside the basketball court and wish her the best in her training."
In UC's two exhibition games, Hein averaged 10 minutes, four points and 1.5 rebounds a game.
During her track and field career, Hein won three conference titles in the high jump and was the only female track and field athlete in UC history to compete in more than two NCAA Championships. She qualified to compete in the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the high jump and is the school record holder in the Indoor and Outdoor high jump (6' 1-1/2" and 6' 0-3/4" respectively).
