CINCINNATI -- Jill Stephens (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of play to lead the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team to a 69-67 exhibition win against Northern Kentucky University on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Fifth Third Arena.

Kahla Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) added 16 points and eight rebounds to give Cincinnati and first-year head coach J. Kelley Hall its first exhibition win of 2007-08.

Cincinnati snatched seven steals in the first half and scored 10 points off of turnovers, setting the tone defensively in the first half. The Bearcats came out strong and grabbed an 11-2 lead early. Led by Roudebush's four three-pointers and 14 points, UC owned a 12 point advantage at the half, 36-24.

The Bearcats extended their lead in the second half, speeding up the pace and taking a 49-28 lead with 12:40 to go in the game. The Norse responded with a three point attack, knocking down four treys over a two minute span and pulling within 10, 54-44 at the 9:14 mark of the second half. A three pointer by Stephens and a layup by Carla Jacobs (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) put UC up 12 with less than five minutes to play. NKU continued to fight, going on an 11-0 run with 2:27 left to play and pulling the score within three with 33 seconds remaining. The Bearcats stayed calm, knocking down a free throw and putting the game out of reach with 18 seconds remaining.

Northern Kentucky was led by Jessie Slack's 24 points and six three pointers while Angela Healy chipped in 13 points for the Norse.

The Bearcats play their second exhibition game of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. against Ohio Girls Basketball Report All Stars at Fifth Third Arena.
