CINCINNATI-- Senior defensive end Anthony Hoke (Warren, OH) received a special honor on Saturday night, following the University of Cincinnati's 27-3 victory over No. 16 Connecticut. Hoke received a helmet award from ESPN College GameDay Final host Rece Davis.
Hoke registered a career-high three sacks, and nearly collected an interception, to lead a Bearcats defense that held Connecticut to 22 rushing yards and 204 yards of total offense. Hoke also reached up and deflected the pass that fell into Adam Hoppel's hands for an interception in the first quarter.
One of three Bearcats invited to play in the 2008 Hula Bowl, Hoke leads Cincinnati (8-2, 3-2 BIG EAST) with nine sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss. The former linebacker has carded 40 tackles in 10 games this season.
Hoke is one of 19 seniors slated to play in their final game at Nippert Stadium this Saturday night against West Virginia (8-1, 3-1 BIG EAST). A sellout crowd is expected. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
