HARTFORD, CT -- University of Cincinnati seniors Kenny Anaba (Westerville, OH/Worthington Christian) and Amir Ikner (Olathe, KS/Blue Valley West) earned all-BIG EAST honors, presented on Thursday night at the conference's annual men's soccer awards banquet in Hartford, Conn., on the eve of the 26th annual BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship.
Anaba was an all-BIG EAST selection for the third straight season after leading the Bearcats with 10 goals and 23 points. The senior forward was named to the league's first team. Anaba's 10 goals were tied for second in the BIG EAST and his 23 points were fifth. He finished his career seventh in the UC record books with 26 career goals and eighth with 65 points (26 G, 13 A). The high-scoring striker was a third-team all-BIG EAST selection in 2005 and a second-team choice in 2006, while earning second-team all-Great Lakes Region honors.
Ikner, a four-year starter along the backline, was named honorable mention. The senior defender, a preseason all-BIG EAST choice, was a third-team selection last season. Ikner helped the Bearcats to eight shutouts and a 0.96 goals against average in 2007, while scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner on Senior Night against Villanova. A starter in 54 of 55 career matches, Ikner scored five career goals and added four assists.
Cincinnati has had a first-team selection in each of its first three years in the powerful BIG EAST. All-American Omar Cummings was a unanimous first-team choice in both 2005 and 2006.
The Bearcats finished the 2007 season with a 9-10-1 record, winning their first-ever BIG EAST Tournament match with a 2-0 victory at Providence on Nov. 7.
