CINCINNATI--The University of Cincinnati's Kevin Huber collected another All-America first-team honor, and fellow junior Terrill Byrd received second-team plaudits from the Associated Press earlier today. For Huber, it marks his third first-team All-America award of the 2007 postseason.
"All-America recognition for Terrill and Kevin shows the national exposure this program is beginning to receive," stated head coach Brian Kelly. "With a Top 20 ranking and the attention we received on national television, we are being looked at from a national perspective."
Huber leads all of college football with his 46.9 yards per punt average. The Cincinnati native has been honored as the The junior dropped 18 of his 53 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line, including four downed on the opposition's 1. The BIG EAST Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, Huber was also named the first-team all-BIG EAST punter.
A product of Cincinnati, Byrd is currently second on the squad with 14 tackles for loss and six sacks. Twice named an all-BIG EAST first-team defensive lineman, Byrd is UC's active leader with 29 career tackles for loss. He was honored as the defense's John Pease Award winner as the unit's most-outstanding lineman after his third year as a starter.
The Bearcats continue to prepare for the 2007 Papajohns.com Bowl, where they are set to meet the University of Southern Mississippi on Dec. 22 in Birmingham, Ala. A triumph over the Golden Eagles would complete the second 10-win campaign in school history.
