FOR STARTERS:
The University of Cincinnati welcomes rival Louisville to Keating Aquatics Center for a BIG EAST dual on Jan.12. This will be the first dual of the year and their first since a Nov. 10 defeat against Washington.
BEARCAT BITES:
Senior Jakub Carda leads the Bearcats in BIG EAST event qualifications with seven. The versatile swimmer from the Czech Republic has two event wins on the year both coming against Washington.
Freshman Nathan Williams is showing that he excels in long distance events. Williams' time of 15:36.03 in the 1650 meter freestyle is the 42nd fastest time in the country. He also has a top 100 mark in the 500 meter freestyle with a time of 4:29.25.
Sophomore Jeremy Peter is having a solid year for the Bearcats. Not only does he have the top time for the men in four events, he has qualified for six BIG EAST events and is just 1.58 seconds away from earning the NCAA `B' mark in the 200 IM.
Freshman Erin Mullins currently leads the women's team with five BIG EAST event qualifications.
SECONDS AWAY:
Sophomore Josh Schneider has had an exceptional year so far in the pool; his six event wins lead the team. Along with the victories, he's a second away in three events to qualify for the NCAA `B' cut. His time of 20.60 in the 50 meter freestyle is only .42 seconds away from the mark. He also is just .14 seconds away from capturing the `B' cut in 100 meter butterfly.
SECONDS AWAY, PART TWO:
Sophomore Elinore de Jong is the closest female to capture an NCAA mark. Her time of 55.77 in the 100 meter butterly is just .41 seconds away from the NCAA `B' mark. Her performaces in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle are just 1.15 and 1.16 seconds away from the cut, respectively.
LAST TIME AGAINST LOUISVILLE:
The last meeting between the Bearcats and Cardinals finished in a split, as the the men were victorious by a margin of 121-102 and the women were defeated by a score of 141-90. Current Bearcats Jakub Carda and Jeremy Peter each recorded an event win in the 500 yard freestyle and the 1000 yard freestyle, respectively. Sophomore Josh Schneider was also victorious; swimming the third leg of the 400 yard Medley Relay.
LAST TIME OUT:
Cincinnati competed in the Miami Invitational held in Oxford, Ohio. The men finished in sixth place out of thirteen teams with 852 total points for the meet, while the women placed seventh out of sixteen squads, finishing with 669 team points.
UP NEXT:
Cincinnati will travel to Oxford to take on neighboring Miami (Ohio) in a non-conference dual. The meet will take place on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
