OXFORD - The University of Cincinnati traveled to Miami (OH) to take part in a non-league dual which featured many highlights for the Bearcats. Despite winning twelve events, the Redhawks depth propeled them to the victory. Cincinnati's men fell by a score of 128.5 -108.5; while the women lost by a margin of 152.5 - 86.5.
Sophomore Josh Schneider (Cincinnati, OH/Taylor) had a hand in three of the victories; winning the 50 and 100 yard Freestyle along with swimming the third leg of the 200 yard Medley Relay. His time of 20.15 in the 50 Freestyle was just under the NCAA 'B' mark. Schneider's time was .03 of a second under the 20.18 mark needed to qualify.
Starting where he left off from the Louisville meet, Sophomore Jeremy Peter (Obernai, France/Lycee Freppel) won three events on the day; the 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and in the 200 IM. His times of 57.84 and 51.11 in the 100 Breast and 100 Back were his fastest times of the season. The wins now put him with eight on the year and five of the eight have occurred in the last two meets.
Two other Bearcat swimmers took home titles for the men, Freshmen Nathan Williams (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:43.44 and Patryk Wakula (Zabre, Poland/Somsit) placed first in the 100 Butterfly touching the wall in 49.37 seconds.
In all, the men won eight of the thirteen events held on the day.
The women were led by the efforts of Sophomore Elinore de Jong (Bussum, Netherlands/Goois Lyceum). de Jong was victorious in the 50 Freestyle, along with the 100 Butterfly. Her times were 24.47 and 57.11, respectively. The two wins on the day make three for the season. Her other win came in 100 Butterfly, at the Miami Invitational.
Senior's Abi Bower (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington North) and Shannon McCarthy (Valencia, CA/ William S. Hart) each won an individual event for UC. Bower's time of 1:07.21 in the 100 Breaststroke took the event. McCarthy's win came in the 100 Backstroke, with a winning time of 1:00.62.
Cincinnati's next meet will be in Rochester, Michigan against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The meet will take place on Jan. 19, starting at 1 p.m.
