FOR STARTERS:
The University of Cincinnati travels to Rochester, Mich. to compete against Oakland University in their second straight non-conference dual. Cincinnati is in the middle of their longest road trip of season. The meet will take place in the OU Aquatics Center on Jan. 19 at 1 p.m.
BEARCAT BITES:
Senior Jakub Carda added another event to his already team-leading BIG EAST qualification against Miami (OH). His time of 4:39.07 in the 500 freestyle notched his tenth event of the season. The versatile swimmer has also won two events on the season, both against Washington.
Sophomore Jeremy Peter is currently riding a hot streak; five of his eight wins on the season have come in the last two meets. Two of his three wins against Louisville set Keating Aquatics Center records.
Sophomore Josh Schneider's mark of 20.15 against the RedHawks in the 50 freestyle was .03 of a second under the NCAA `B' mark of 20.18. He is the first Bearcat to qualify for an NCAA event this season.
Sophomore Elinore de Jong's two victories against Miami (OH) currently ties her for the team lead with senior Abi Bower with three event crowns. de Jong also has qualified for four BIG EAST events on the year.
LAST TIME AGAINST OAKLAND:
UC was led by the efforts of current Bearcats Elinore de Jong and Jakub Carda, who each won a pair of events on the day. de Jong was victorious in the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle while Carda won the 1000 Freestyle and 400 IM. Cincinnati would eventually fall as the men lost 171.5-122.5 and the women dropped a 152-134 decision.
LAST TIME OUT:
Cincinnati's trip to take on Miami (OH) did not end in the Bearcats favor, as both teams were downed on Jan. 15. The men, despite winning eight of thirteen events, lost 128.5 - 108.5 and the women fell by a final of 152.5 - 108.5. UC totaled twelve event winners on the day including three by sophomores Jeremy Peter and Josh Schneider and two by Elinore de Jong.
UP NEXT:
The Bearcats conclude their three match road trip, finishing against Kentucky on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. The Wildcat men are currently 2-6, while their women are 4-4 on the season.
