ROCHESTER - The Golden Grizzlies proved to be too much for the young Cincinnati swimmers in the Inter-Conference dual held on Jan.19. The Bearcats dropped both meets against Oakland, as the men were downed 172 -121; and the women fell by a score of 172 -123.
Despite the setback, multiple Bearcat swimmers were victorious on the day. Leading Cincinnati was sophomore Jeremy Peter (Obernai,France/Lycee Freppel). Peter continued his hot swimming as of late, capturing three titles on the day. His times of 52.77 and 1:52.06 swept the 100 and 200 Backstroke competitions; along with the two wins, he also won the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:52.47. With the wins, he bumps his season total to eleven on the season. Of the eleven, eight of the wins have come in the last three meets.
Also posting multiple wins were Josh Schneider (Cincinnati,OH/Taylor) and Nathan Williams (Cincinnati,OH/Elder). Schneider has dominated the freestyle events in which he has entered, and Saturday was no exception. His times of 20.82 and 45.74 in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, each were victorious. The two wins put Schneider at twelve for the season, most by any Bearcat. Freshman Nathan Williams continues to excel in long distance races, winning the 500 and 1000 Freestyle against Oakland. Williams' time of 9:36.43 in the 1000 Free was his fastest of the year, and the mark paces all Bearcats in the event.
Sophomore Elinore de Jong (Bussum, Netherlands/ Goois Lyceum) won two events for the Bearcats. Her victories in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly give her five wins on the year. Shannon McCarthy (Valencia,CA/William S. Hart)also took home the 100 Backstroke in a time of 1:01.00. The mark is her best on the year, and tops her previous mark by .24 of a second.
