CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati men's soccer standout Kenny Anaba (Westerville, OH/Worthington Christian) was selected by Real Salt Lake with the 45th pick in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft on Jan. 24.
Anaba was an all-BIG EAST selection for the third straight season after leading the Bearcats with 10 goals and 23 points in 2007. He earned all-Great Lakes Region honors after each of the last two campaigns. Anaba's 10 goals were tied for second in the BIG EAST and his 23 points were fifth. He finished his career seventh in the UC record books with 26 career goals and eighth with 65 points (26 G, 13 A).
"Kenny has been an integral part of our program the past four years," UC head coach Hylton Dayes said. "He has been a standout college player and now has an opportunity to test himself at the next level. We wish him all the best as he embarks on his pro career."
Anaba becomes the fourth Bearcat to be drafted by an MLS club in the last five seasons. Josh Gardner was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the second round in 2004. A year later, Jeremiah Gallegos was a supplemental draft pick of the Galaxy. In the 2007 SuperDraft, Omar Cummings was a third round pick of the Colorado Rapids. Anaba is one of eight former Bearcats who have gone on to play professionally during Dayes' tenure.
Anaba will report immediately to Salt Lake City, Utah, for physicals, training and mini-camp.
