LEXINGTON - University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams traveled to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats in their final non-conference road trip of the year. The Bearcats were defeated on the day by a combined score of 296-232. The men were outscored 154-116, while the women lost 142-116.
The Bearcats were led by sophomore's Josh Schneider (Cincinnati,OH/Taylor) and Jeremy Peter (Obernai,France/Lycee Freppel). Schneider won three events on the day, bumping his season total to 15 for the season. His time of 50.33 seconds in the 100 Butterfly narrowly topped UK's Elvis Burrows. His sweep of the 50 and 100 Freestyle was the fourth time he's accomplished the feat this season. He won the events with times of 20.58 and 45.25, respectively. Jeremy Peter continued his hot streak of late, winning two events against the Wildcats. Peter took the 200 IM, his fourth such event of the year, in a time of 1:52.29. He also swam a personal best in the 200 Breaststroke, with a time of 2:01.94, which won the event.
Also victorious on the day was Freshman Nathan Williams (Cincinnati,OH/Elder). Williams, UC's best long distance swimmer, won the 500 Freestyle in 4:35.23.
The women were paced by Junior Shannon McCarthy (Valencia,CA/William S. Hart). McCarthy recorded three personal bests against Kentucky. Her times in each of the Backstroke competitions were her fastest of the year. Also, her 200 Backstroke time of 2:10.12 was a life time best. The time tops her season best by .39 of a second.
Following the meet, McCarthy and Peter were tabbed, "Bearcat SwimDive Athlete of the Week" voted on by the team.
Cincinnati concludes it's regular season against Wright State at Keating Aquatics Center on Feb. 2. The dual will begin at 1 p.m.
