CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati men's soccer standout Amir Ikner (Olathe, KS/Blue Valley West) was selected in the second round of the 2008 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Draft by the Chicago Storm on Jan. 29.
Ikner, a four-year starter along the backline at UC, was named honorable mention all-BIG EAST in 2007. A 2007 preseason all-BIG EAST choice, the 6-1 defender was a third-team all-conference selection in 2006. Ikner helped the Bearcats to eight shutouts and a 0.96 goals against average in 2007, while scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner on Senior Night against Villanova. A starter in 54 of 55 career matches, Ikner scored five career goals and added four assists.
"Amir has not only been a key player for us but also one of the top defenders in the BIG EAST," UC head coach Hylton Dayes said. "He is a very talented player and can definitely play at the next level."
Ikner becomes the second former Bearcat to be drafted by a professional club in the last week. Kenny Anaba (Westerville, OH/Worthington Christian) was selected in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft on Jan. 24.
