CINCINNATI -- The skies were overcast in the Queen City, but that did not affect the University of Cincinnati baseball team from taking the diamond for the first day of practice permitted by the NCAA, on Friday afternoon at Marge Schott Stadium.
"We have a lot of work to do, with plenty of new faces," said Brian Cleary, who is entering his 12th season as Bearcats head coach. "We're enthusiastic and excited to get going. I am anxious to see how we gel, but I like the makeup of our team. We had a long time to workout this fall and it should be a busy three weeks leading up to the first game."
All 17 pitchers on the Bearcats roster threw to from the mound and the team spent time working on infield drills and batting practice. They will practice again on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's workout is scheduled for Noon.
The Bearcats open the 2008 season with a three-game series at Miami (FL), beginning on Feb. 22, before opening the home schedule with a 16-game homestand at Marge Schott Stadium.
