HUNTINGTON, WV - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team picked up its first BIG EAST Conference win of the season, edging out the University of Pittsburgh, 4-3, in a neutral site contest at Marshall University.
The Bearcats took one of the three doubles matches as Elizabeth Young and Valeriya Dandik took the No. 2 slot, winning 8-4.
After falling down 1-0 after doubles, UC grabbed control of the overall match, winning four of the six singles matches and taking the overall match, 4-3. Senior Jennifer Keiner picked up a hard fought battle in the No. 2 singles, coming back to knock off Sabrina Visram in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5), in a tie break. Juniors Elizabeth Young and Jennifer Rowen followed suit with straight set wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 flights. Junior Valeriya Dandik locked up the win for Cincinnati taking the No. 5 singles match-up in dramatic fashion rallying to win UC's second three-set contest, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.
Cincinnati (3-6, 1-4 BIG EAST) opens up the home portion of its winter/spring schedule next weekend, Feb. 22-23, as it hosts non-conference opponents Abilene Christian and Bowling Green at the Queen City Racquet Fitness Club at 6:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
