, - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team kicked off the spring season at the Cuthbert Cup on shooting an opening round 312 and is in 11th place out of 13 teams.
Freshman Bambee Dela Paz shot a team-best 75 in her first round of the spring, while senior Hillery Wilson, junior Mariane Erb, and Allison Mayborg each finished four shots back at 79. Freshman Kate Moore rounded out the Bearcats with an 80.
"Today's round was one of our better starts to a spring season in recent memory," said head coach Janet Carl. "Through their work this winter you can see the team striking the ball well. We just need to get in a couple rounds and we will see our short game get better. But for now, we are on a good pace for the early season."
The three-day tournament is named in honor of longtime Kiawah Island Golf Resort director of golf Tommy Cuthbert, who passed away in 2006. Cuthbert was a supporter of both men's and women's collegiate golf and his efforts will be remembered with the inaugural tournament.
