CINCINNATI - Sophomore guard Deonta Vaughn (Indianapolis, Ind./Arlington) was named to the BIG EAST Conference's Honor Roll this week, marking his third conference plaudit this season. Vaughn, who was the BIG EAST Player of the Week (Jan. 7-13), now has two honor roll selections.
Vaughn earned his latest accolade, leading Cincinnati in scoring last week with 17.0 a game in a pair of contests vs. USF and at No. 12/11 Georgetown. Vaughn racked up 21 points on Wednesday night vs. the Bulls as he helped the Bearcats hold on for a 52-51 victory. This past Saturday, he once again led UC in points vs. the Hoyas, tossing in 13 on four 3-pointers and one free throw.
The 6-1, 195-pound guard who averages 32.8 minutes per game, is Cincinnati's top scorer, posting 17.2 points overall. He is 53 points away from becoming the 32nd player in UC basketball history to post 500 points in a single-season with four regular-season games remaining.
The Bearcats (13-13, 8-6 BIG EAST) return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. for their second game of the year vs. the University of Pittsburgh (19-8, 7-7 BIG EAST). UC took the first match-up on Jan. 19, 62-59, as freshman Rashad Bishop blocked Pitt's game-tying 3-point attempt at the end of the game.
