Men's Golf Eighth After First Round Of Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, T.N.- The University of Cincinnati men's golf team stands eighth out of 16-teams after the first round of the Grover Page Classic, hosted by University of Tennessee-Martin. The men shot a 303, plus-15 on the day despite poor weather conditions.

The Bearcats were led by junior Alberto Fernandez, who shot an opening round 73 and is currently tied for 16th place at plus-1. UC had a pair of players shoot 3-over, 75's with Joe Kastelic and Ryan Heinly. Cincinnati was rounded out by Blake Tucker's 80 and Nick Proud who scored a 83.

The event started at 7:30 am and due to delays didn't finish until 3:00 pm. Coach Doug Martin on the opening round, "Today was a tough day for our kids. The weather was a huge factor for us, and we didn't do a good job of play up to our ability. The delays and the wind are something as a team we need to do a better job of playing through."

The event has been reduced from 54-holes to 36-holes due to imclimate weather on the horizon.
