JACKSON, TN - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team overcame the elements to post a ninth-place finish in the second-annual Grover Page Classic hosted by University of Tennessee-Martin. The event which saw wind, rain and snow during periods of the play came to a close on Tuesday (Mar. 4), after the tournament was reduced to 36-holes. The Bearcats placed ninth out of 16 teams, scoring a 310 on the second day to end with a score of 613.
Cincinnati was led by the play of freshman Joe Kastelic (Newton, NC/Fred T. Ford). Kastelic shot a plus-one, 73 on the final day, ending the classic with a score of 148 and a share of 12th place. Behind Kastelic, was junior Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) who finished the tournament one shot behind the freshman at 149. Fernandez finished the second-round with a 76 on the final day.
The Bearcats were rounded out by the play of Ryan Cahill (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) who shot 79 on day two, to post a score of 154. Blake Tucker (Findlay, OH/Owens CC) and Nick Proud (Middletown, OH/Lakota East) shot an 82 and 84 respectively on the final day.
The Bearcats next play in The Big Four tournament in Burlington, KY on Mar. 27.
