CINCINNATI -- The BIG EAST Conference announced the University of Cincinnati's Mike Spina (Newberry, Fla.) as its BIG EAST Player of the Week for the third week of the 2008 baseball season.

In an abbreviated week of action, Spina went 3-for-4 in the 10-5 win over Marshall last Wednesday. The junior belted a pair of three-run home runs, a single, and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven runs batted in, two runs scored, and a 2.250 slugging percentage. His seven RBIs were the most in a game by a Bearcat since Logan Parker knocked in seven runs in a 20-12 win over Oakland on March 18, 2006.

A .276 hitter at the plate, Spina is second on the team with a .517 slugging percentage. A starter at the hot corner in all eight games this season, he has 10 RBIs to his credit.

Cincinnati's three-game series scheduled against Cleveland State last weekend was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Bearcats return to the diamond this afternoon to host Youngstown State. They bounce back the following day to face Bowling Green. Both games are scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. at Marge Schott Stadium.
