CINCINNATI -- There were no April Fool's Day jokes handed out at the University of Cincinnati's first spring practice. The most conspicuous item at Nippert Stadium was the new adidas apparel sported by more than 90 Bearcats vying for positions.

"I was happy with this morning's workout," Kelly said. "Last year, I was yelling throughout the spring. The group now understands the tempo, rhythm, and our expectations for practices."

Donning new adidas practice jerseys for the first time, the Bearcats took the field at 9 a.m. The offense wore new white jerseys, the defense was in black, while the quarterbacks were identifiable in their standard red tops.

Kelly and the squad are set to conduct 13 of their workouts during the nontraditional season to the mornings. The 18-year head coach wrapped up the first session in less than two hours.

The Bearcats continue in helmets and shorts on Wednesday. They step into full equipment for the first time this spring on Friday, April 4.
