April 7, 2008

HUNINGTON, W.Va - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team traveled east to play in the Marshall Invitational on Apr. 4 and 5. The men finished in eighth place with a two-day score of 583 for the Invitational. The 17-team tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes on Saturday after Friday's action was cancelled due to rainy conditions.

The men were led by the play of junior Blake Tucker (Findlay, OH/Van Buren) who shot an opening round two-under and followed the next day by shooting a 74 to stand at 143 for the Invitational. Tucker, whose opening round score of 69 is a season low, finished in a tie for 16th place.

Three shots back of Tucker finished freshman Joe Kastelic (Newton, NC/Fred T. Ford) who shot rounds of 71 and 75 in the event. Matching Kastelic's opening round of 71, was junior Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) but a final round 76, placed Fernandez at 147 and a tie for 38th position.

Freshmen Ryan Cahill (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) and Kane Volsky (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) each shot opening round 78, but each were able to improve in their second round. Cahill followed up his round with a even round of 71, while Volsky ended his second day with a three-over, 47.

The Bearcats next play in the UK Bluegrass Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky on April 13-14.
