CINCINNATI--Utilizing the spring drills to teach and prepare for the rigorous season ahead, the University of Cincinnati football team spent much of Wednesday's two-hour session working in position groups, before concluding with a brief segment of full-contact scrimmage action inside the 20-yard line.

"There were some things we wanted to see running the ball today," said head coach Brian Kelly. "I am pleased with our consistency in the offensive running game, especially our ability to go north and south with the ball. We came in to the spring wanting to see that facet of the offense."

Running backs John Goebel and Jacob Ramsey carried the bulk of the load in the closing moments of practice. A rising junior, Ramsey is the Bearcats is tops among the returning Bearcats rushing, after totaling 362 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, Goebel is heading into his sophomore season after redshirting a year ago.

Defensively the tandem of Connor Barwin and Craig Carey has impressed Kelly after each individual moved to defensive end from the other side of the football. "I like the energy Barwin and Carey give us. I am seeing some really good things from them."

Kelly leads the Bearcats back to Nippert Stadium on Friday morning. Workouts gets underway at 9 a.m.
