CINCINNATI -- Friday morning, the longest football practice conducted at the University of Cincinnati since the arrival of Brian Kelly included a cool breeze, followed by bright sunshine, and a dose of rain at Nippert Stadium. Through it all, Cincinnati's grid squad continued to improve on its seventh day of spring drills.
Normally overseeing the work on the offensive side of the field, head coach Brian Kelly split his time evenly for the two-hour and seven-minute session.
"When I am working with a group, I try to have my attention on all to the 11 guys on the field," Kelly said. "Our coaches do a great job and they don't need me back there to tell players to adjust their stance. I want to provide an extra set of eyes to see what's going on and to make sure we're all on the same page."
Always involved with the offense, Kelly shared his thoughts on working with the UC defense.
Kelly commented, "We're at that level where we know who our players are and we can add things to what they do on the football field. I know what we do offensively drives defensive coaches crazy. Going against our offense makes the defense better. It's not about how many yards you give up, but keeping points off the scoreboard that wins games."
Approaching the halfway point of spring drills, Cincinnati returns to Nippert Stadium on Saturday morning for their eight workout of the nontraditional season. Practice gets underway at 9 a.m. and will include a live scrimmage.
