CINCINNATI - Katie McGovern scored her fourth goal of the game with 6.5 seconds remaining to lift UC Davis past the University of Cincinnati, 12-11, in non-conference lacrosse action on Saturday (April 12) afternoon at Nippert Stadium.

The Bearcats (2-11) knotted the score at 11 apiece with 2:05 to play on Lindsey Marshall's (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Davidson) fourth goal of the match and had a chance to take the lead with under a minute to play. Marshall made her way to the cage, but her low shot was saved by UC Davis goalie Hilary Harkins, leading to McGovern's heroics.

UC Davis (5-8) opened up a 3-0 lead 4:50 into the game on goals by McGovern, Katie McMahon and Jacklyn Taylor.

Cincinnati would answer with three goals of its own to draw even at the 19:25 mark. Jamie Desautels (Westminster, MD/Westminster), Marshall and Karen Skelton (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) did the damage for the Bearcats.

After Gina Hoffmeier gave the Aggies the lead again at 4-3 in the 22nd minute, the Bearcats scored twice to end the half and take a 5-4 lead into the break. Desautels' second goal of the game gave UC a 6-4 advantage just over five minutes into the second stanza.

McMahon cut the lead to one, 6-5, but back to back goals by Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) and Shannon Lynes (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) gave UC its largest lead at 8-5 with just over 20 minutes to play.

UC Davis scored four straight goals - two each by McGovern and McMahon - to grab the lead back, 9-8.

Steph Cox (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) pulled the Bearcats even with under 10 minutes to play, but moments later, Laura Martin pushed the Aggies back in front with a free position goal.

Burton tallied her 18th goal of the season to draw the Bearcats even again at 10 apiece with 4:11 to play. The Aggies would take the lead right back on a goal by Olivia Jarem just 28 seconds later.

Marshall's team-leading 24th goal knotted the match at 11 before the fateful goal by McGovern.

The Bearcats outshot the Aggies, 31-26, and controlled 17 draws to UC Davis' 8.

A day after setting a program record with 17 saves, Jen Mott (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) made six more for UC.

The Bearcats travel to Penn State for a 4 p.m. draw with the Nittany Lions on Friday, April 18.
