LEXINGTON, KY - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team traveled south to Kentucky to take part in the UK Bluegrass Invitational at UK Big Blue G.C. on Sunday (Apr. 13). After the first round of play, UC stands in 12th place with a team score of 319 on the Par 72, 7,013 yard golf course.
Cincinnati's top performer on the first day was junior Blake Tucker (Findlay, OH/Owens CC) who shot a 78 which placed him in a tie for 24th position. Tucker shot identical 39's on the front and back to finish at plus-six.
One shot behind Tucker, sit Joe Kastelic (Newton, NC/Fred T. Ford) and Ryan Cahill (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) who each shot and opening round 79. Kastelic opened with a 44 on the front nine but was able to recover by shooting an one-under on the back nine to finish at plus-seven for the Invitational. Cahill went out with a score of 39 and finished the home holes at 40 strokes. Each are tied in 33rd position
Rounding out the Bearcats' day were Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) and Kane Volsky (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) who shot an 83 and 87, respectively. Fernandez sits in a tie for 66th place, while Volsky stands in a tie for 85th position.
The Invitational was originally scheduled to play 36 holes on Sunday with the remaining 18 to be played on Monday (Apr. 14) but due to poor weather conditions the second round was cut short. Second round play will continue Monday morning followed by the start of round three.
