Dear Bearcats,

As Spring marches closer I wanted to take a moment and share with you the pride I have in being associated with UC Athletics. It is just incredible how many wonderful people my family and I have met and come to know that are part of the Cincinnati Athletics community. As each day goes by I learn more and more about how special this place is and how generous and supportive UC fans can be. There is a real sense of pride and optimism.

A big congratulations go out to our newest UC All-American, sophomore swimmer Josh Schneider (Cincinnati, OH/Taylor) who earned all-America honors with a 14th-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle at the 2008 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

We have also added another BIG EAST title with Monica Hundley's (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) indoor championship in the 60 meter hurdles at the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships. Monica broke her own school record for the second straight day, shaving a tenth of a second off of her preliminary time by bolting to an 8.31 finish.

Hats off to the Bearcats baseball team and head coach Brian Cleary as UC has won 13 of its last 16 games and is currently 19-12 overall, 9-3 in BIG EAST play. UC will host nationally-ranked Kentucky coming up this Tuesday night at Marge Schott Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. so make plans to be on hand to support the Red & Black. For a full listing of all remaining home games click here.

This coming weekend will also see our campus come alive with lots of athletics activity, ranging from our UC track & tield team hosting the All-Ohio Championships (Friday-Sunday) at Gettler Stadium to UC's hosting of the 2008 BIG EAST Men's & Women's Golf Championships. The men's event will take place at Tradition's Golf Club in Hebron, Ky. while the women's championship will be held at the Greg Norman designed Elk's Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio. Keep your fingers crossed for great weather as we look to showcase these great facilities and our region.

The energy around Bearcats football continues to be high on everyone's radar. Spring practice is progressing well as Brian Kelly and our coaching staff work overtime to transition our football team to new attitudes and styles. I am really looking forward to BEARCAT BOWL II coming up Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in Nippert Stadium and hope to see you on campus for this great event. If you are unable to make the game in person, you will be able to watch the game live on television for the first time via a new partnership with ONN - the Ohio News Network. UC Football is on the rise!

Moving forward with plans for 2008-09 I appreciate the diligence of all of you fans in responding to our UCATS deadline, which is April 30, 2008. Thanks to you who have already renewed your UCATS donation for the coming year. I am very excited by the large number of new season tickets being reserved. A substantial increase in our football season ticket sales over the next few months is our department's No. 1 priority. If you can help in that effort by encouraging others to buy season tickets, by all means pitch in!

As always, I want to thank you for all that you do to support our student athletes and staff. It is a privilege to work with you in building a championship athletics program here at the University of Cincinnati. If you have any questions about our program feel free to reach out to me at bearcatad@uc.edu.

Have a great Spring and I hope to see you around campus cheering on the Bearcats!

Sincerely,
Mike Thomas
