April 15, 2008

LEXINGTON, KY - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team improved in the final round of the UK Bluegrass Invitational shooting a 304 in the final round to finish in 13th for the tournament. Played was halted in the middle of the second round and finished prior to third round play. UC's second round score of 319 matched that of their first round score.

Finishing in a tie for 37th place was junior Blake Tucker (Findlay, OH/Owens CC). Tucker shot a 76 on the final day to finish the Invitational at 233. This is the first time Tucker has held Cincinnati's sole lead in a tournament.

Freshman Joe Kastelic (Newton, NC/Fred T. Ford) also shot a final round 76 to finish in a tie for 53rd position. His three-round score of 236 was good for plus-23 for the Invitational. Kastelic rebounded nicely from a second round 81, his second highest round as a collegiate to post a plus-five in the last round. Also posting a score of 236 was redshirt freshman Ryan Cahill (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) who like Tucker and Kastelic shot a final round 76 to wrap up play.

One shot behind the contingent stands Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) who finished play with a 237, plus-24 for the Invitational. Fernandez got off to a slow start but was able to improve on each round, finishing the last round with a 76. Kane Volsky (Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) shot an opening round 87 but withdrew from the tournament in the second round.

Cincinnati returns to play on April 20-22 in the BIG EAST Championship at Traditions G.C. in Hebron, KY.
