- The Cincinnati Bearcats football team went through practice of No. 10 of 15 under perfect conditions as it was sunny with blue skies and almost 60 degrees in Nippert Stadium. The warm weather brought out many onlookers, including former Bearcat and current head coach Urban Meyer as UC finished the first half of Week 3 of practice.
The team concluded its two-hour practice just before 11 a.m. as Meyer spoke to the current Bearcats for about 10 minutes ().
Comments from Coach Kelly ...
On areas of biggest improvement
I think what we are doing defensively is building a lot of uncertainty into our looks. What we want to do is really get the right 11 players on the field. How we do that is really important because last year we got a little too easy to read. I think we have made great progress there. From the offensive side, I think we have shown strength in running the football, which at times last year was a weakness for us. I am really happy about those two areas.
On the players who are catching the eyes of the coaching staff this spring
John Hughes is coming along defensively along with Torry Cornett. In particular, they have shown the ability to be guys we can count on. From an offensive standpoint, Armon Binns has shown us a great deal as well as John Goebel. And the quarterback position, which is evolving everyday. I think (Chazz) Anderson and Demetrius Jones are both showing progress.
On what the team will focus on in the final four practices
As we finish up campus we are going to focus in on cleaning up the areas we are making mistakes in. We need to do a better job in some areas of pass coverage, defensively and, from an offensive standpoint, we are a little sloppy in our tempo.
