CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's golf team finished ninth in the BIG EAST Championship at Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Kentucky on Tuesday (Apr. 22). The men shot a final round score of 306, ending the Championship at 909, plus-45 for the three day event.
Marquette University won the BIG EAST Championship, shooting a score of 874, plus-10 over the three days.
Pacing the Bearcats was junior Alberto Fernandez (Gijorn, Spain/La Corolla) who shot a final round score of plus-two on the day. Fernandez, despite bogeying three of the first four holes he played, rebounded on his back nine to shoot minus-one, finishing the day at 74. For the Championship, he finished in a tie for 18th position at plus-eight.
Two shots behind Fernandez sits freshman Joe Kastelic (Newton, N.C./Fred T. Foard) who ended the tournament at plus-ten, 226. Kastelic shot a final round total of 77, despite four birdies on the day.
The Bearcats were rounded out on the day by Ryan Cahill (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson), Blake Tucker (Findlay, OH/Owens CC) and Kane Volsky(Beachwood, OH/Beachwood) who shot an 80, 77 and 78, respectively.
