CINCINNATI-- The final day of spring football practice in full pads prior to the University of Cincinnati's Bearcat Bowl II took place under more sunny skies at Nippert Stadium. Head coach Brian Kelly focused much of the attention on the defense and its ability to maintain pressure in a variety of situations.

"We challenged to defense and its ability to stop the run," said Kelly. "We wanted to see how the group would holdup and fit our running assignments. We did that did very well today."

Following a segment dedicated to matching up the offense and defense in running-play situations, the two sides went to passing mode.

"We want to use a four-man pass rush and be able to bring pressure to the quarterback," Kelly commented. "Connor Barwin again showed his abilities to play the defensive end position."

The final tune-up prior to Bearcat Bowl II takes place on Thursday morning. The Bearcats are off on Friday for the 14th annual alumni golf outing, hosted by Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio. Bearcat Bowl II gets underway at 7 p.m. and is set to be televised live on the Ohio News Network (ONN).
