CINCINNATI - Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Davidson) scored her team-leading 27th goal of the season, but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 17-2 decision to Ohio State in the Bearcats' home finale on Wednesday (April 23) night at Nippert Stadium.
Kristin Slahor, the nation's leader in assists per game, scored five goals and added a pair of assists to lead the Buckeyes (10-6).
After OSU got out to a 2-0 lead, Marshall netted her 27th goal of the year at the 4:21 mark of the first half to pull the Bearcats (2-13) within a goal at 2-1.
Ohio State scored the next 12 goals over the final 25 minutes of the half to take a 14-1 lead when Jaqueline Orona beat the halftime horn for her sixth goal of the season.
Marissa Hiatt (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) scored on a rebound after a Jamie Desautels (Westminster, MD/Westminster) free position shot was knocked away by OSU goalie Annie Carruthers. It was Hiatt's third goal of the year.
Ohio State scored the final three goals of the game to close out the scoring.
Ten different players scored for the Buckeyes and six posted assists. Kristen Hannon had three assists to lead the attack, while three others had multiple assists for OSU.
Haley Marvine (Alpharetta, GA/Chattahoochee) had eight saves in splitting time with starter Jen Mott (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore). Mott had one save in just under 30 minutes of action.
UC will close out its first varsity season against Louisville, another first-year program, on April 29 at 7 p.m. at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium. UC and UL will each join the BIG EAST for the 2009 season after spending the 2008 season as independents.
