Bearcats Topple Raiders 1-0

April 28, 2008

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team participated in the annual Blue Chip Showcase, held at the Clear Creek Soccer Complex in Anderson Township on Saturday (Apr. 26). The Bearcats defeated Wright State by a 1-0 margin.

Cincinnati got off to a fast start as Nick Weightman (Lanark, Scotland/St. Aidans) scored in the 5th minute of the match off of a scramble in front of the goal after a missed clearance by the Wright State goalkeeper.

The Bearcats controlled the game from the outset and created a number of chances on the offensive end. Wright State was dangerous on counter attacks at times but was not able to penetrate the Bearcats solid defense.

Goalkeeper Miguel Rosales (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) played the entire match in goal and was credited with the shutout.

Head Coach Hylton Dayes on the match, "We were pleased with the final result but not with the way we played, we were able to possess the ball in the back third but did not play quickly enough in the midfield and attacking thirds. Defensively we were organized and did not allow many quality goal scoring chances."

The Bearcats are now 2-1-3 and will close out their spring slate with the annual Alumni game on Sunday, May 4th at 2 p.m. at Gettler Stadium.
