BALTIMORE - Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) scored her first career hat trick, but the University of Cincinnati lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 decision at Loyola (Md.) on Friday (April 4) afternoon at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field.
Abby Rehfuss scored a career-high five times and added an assist for the Greyhounds (4-7), leading all scorers.
Burton tallied three times to lead the Bearcats (1-9), who lost their sixth straight. She is second on the team behind Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Davidson) with 14 goals this season.
The Greyhounds scored the first three goals of the game before Burton tallied at the 8:33 mark to pull within 3-1. Three more Loyola goals gave the Greyhounds a 6-1 lead before Marshall scored the first of her two goals on the day to make it 6-2 at 25:25.
Loyola scored the next six goals from the 28:59 mark of the first half to the 5:27 mark of the second. Marshall stopped the bleeding at 6:22 with her second goal and team-leading 17th of the season.
Burton added two more second-half goals and Jess Kazaks (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue Medford) tallied her fourth of the season to complete the scoring for the Bearcats.
Ten different players scored for Loyola and six scored mutliple goals. Along with Rehfuss' five goals, Kate Filipelli scored three times for the Greyhounds.
UC will head to Washington, DC, to take on Howard on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m.
