Defense Dominant Against Indianapolis

April 9, 2008

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team played host to the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday night (Apr. 9). The match ended in a scoreless tie, as each team's defense appears to be further along than their collective offense.

"Offensively, it takes a little while to get things going," explained head coach Hylton Dayes. "This is only our third spring game, so I think it's easier to be a cohesive defense of unit, than it is to try and score goals."

The Bearcats took control for most of the first half, as they outshot the Greyhounds by a 5-0 margin, but couldn't find the back of the net.

UC Goalkeeper Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) was credited for the shutout as he stopped three Indianapolis shots on the night.

Coach Dayes on the intensity of the match, "It was a hard fought game. I think late in the game each team was a little fatigued and Indianapolis showed a really strong effort to try and win the game."

With the tie, UC stands at 0-1-2 for the spring. The Bearcats next play Sunday (Apr. 13) against the University of Dayton at Gettler Stadium. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kick.
