Former University of Cincinnati standout Omar Cummings is thriving as a starter for the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. Cummings scored his third goal of the season, the game-winner in Colorado's 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake in a nationally-televised match on Thursday (May 15) night.
Cummings has led the Rapids to sole possession of first place in the MLS Western Division through seven matches, leading the team with three goals and adding an assist.
Cummings was inserted as a starter coming out of preseason in 2008, just his second MLS campaign. He played in 11 matches in 2007, scoring a pair of goals and earning Colorado's Rookie of the Year award.
An NSCAA/adidas first team all-American as a senior at UC, Cummings was drafted in the third round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.
