BOSTON – University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and current Boston Red Six first baseman Kevin Youkilis was selected to play for the American League in the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which will take place on Tuesday, July 15 at Yankee Stadium. Youkilis was one of seven Red Sox players to be elected to play in the game.
Youkilis, who beat out Minnesota’s Justin Morneau for the nod, received 2,858,130 votes. He is the seventh Red Sox player to be voted the starting first baseman in the Mid-Summer Classic.
The Cincinnati native is fourth on the Red Sox in hitting with a .319 batting average. His 14 home runs rank third on the team while his 57 RBI are second.
