University of Cincinnati assistant lacrosse coach Lauren Schwarzmann is one of 49 players selected to represent the U.S. women's national team in 2008-09. The 49 players were chosen on Aug. 3 following tryouts at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

The player pool will be divided into Elite and Developmental teams following US Lacrosse's Stars and Stripes weekend Oct. 10-13. All players are eligible to represent Team USA at the 2009 IFWLA World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, with the final 18-player roster expected to be announced following the US Lacrosse Champions Challenge in January, 2009.

Schwarzmann played collegiately at Johns Hopkins, where she was recruited by current UC head coach Lellie Swords.

" Lauren's selection to US National Team is an amazing accomplishment, " said Swords. " She has worked hard for four years at Johns Hopkins to prepare her for this experience. We are extremely proud of her and hope that her National Team experience will carry over to the Cincinnati lacrosse program. "

A four-year starter and four-time all-conference selection for the Blue Jays, Schwarzmann was on the Teewarton Trophy (the top individual award in women's lacrosse) watch list in 2008. An all-region selection in 2007 as a midfielder, she was selected to play in the North/South College Senior All-Star game and was a member of the U.S. National Development team in 2007-08. Schwarzmann finished her Johns Hopkins career with 79 goals, 39 assists and 118 points, ranking in the Top 10 in school history in all three categories.

Schwarzmann, hired in July, graduated in the spring of 2008 with a degree in public health studies. She will handle the offensive coordinator duties at UC as well as individual player development, video exchange, fundraising and aid in recruiting.
