NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Cincinnati women's track and field team earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team honors after posting a combined 3.22 team cumulative grade point average following the 2007-08 academic year.
Additionally, junior Ian Jarman (Felicity, Ohio/Felicity-Franklin) and senior Brittany Klima (Ottoville, Ohio/Ottoville) were named USTFCCCA Academic All-Americans.
"Our team's academic achievement as well as Brittany and Ian's outstanding seasons exemplify everything UC Track & Field and UC Athletics stand for - excellence in the class room and excellence on the playing field," said interim head women's coach Susan Seaton. "We are pursuing balance between academics and athletics every step of the way and truly believe in the complete student-athlete."
Jarman set a school record in the hammer throw in 2008, winning the Penn Relays with a 202' 11" heave. He finished second in the BIG EAST in the hammer and qualified for the regional championships for the second straight season, finishing 13th. Jarman posted a 3.14 GPA in 2007-08.
"Ian Jarman is the prototype of a student-athlete. He studies hard and he trains hard so his results in both areas are very similar," said head men's coach Bill Schnier. "As a pre-med student Ian excels in class and is currently studying for the MCAT. As an athlete he is our school record holder in the hammer and an NCAA Regional qualifier. His goals and expectations are high."
Klima, who owns the school record in the indoor (13' 3-1/2") and outdoor pole vault (13' 7-1/4"), finished 15th at the NCAA Championships in 2008. She won the BIG EAST outdoor crown in 2007 and made three appearances at the NCAA regional championships. Klima held a 4.0 GPA during the 2007-08 season.
UC was one of eight BIG EAST women's programs to earn all-academic team honors. A total of 32 BIG EAST student-athletes were named academic all-Americans.
