CINCINNATI - Former Bearcat standout Sam Miller has been named volunteer assistant men's soccer coach, head coach Hylton Dayes announced Monday (Aug. 11).
"We look forward to having Sam join our coaching staff. He is an excellent young coach with a tremendous work ethic and passion for the game," Dayes said. "Sam had a great career as a Bearcat student-athlete and will no doubt help our young players in their transition to the college game."
A four-year starter in the central midfield for the Bearcats from 2003-06, Miller made two NCAA Tournament appearances (2003, 2006) and captained UC to the 2006 BIG EAST Red Division Championship, the first BIG EAST team title in school history.
Miller, a 2003 Conference USA All-Freshman selection, was a two-year captain at UC, scoring seven career goals and adding one assist. He scored the game-winner against Marquette in 2003, securing the C-USA regular-season crown in the season finale. He is one of four Bearcats in school history to play on two NCAA Tournament teams.
Following his career with the Bearcats, Miller signed with the Cincinnati Kings of the United Soccer Leagues' Second Division.
