PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team was tabbed to finish sixth in the BIG EAST Red Division by a vote of the league's coaches.

UC welcomes 17 newcomers to the 2008 squad, which will be led by senior defender Brad Simpson (Novi, Mich./Novi).

South Florida was chosen to win the Red Division, followed by Louisville, St. John's and 2007 champion DePaul. Rutgers was chosen fifth, with UC, Villanova and Syracuse following.

The Bearcats finished the 2007 season tied for fifth in the Red Division and won the first BIG EAST Tournament match in school history, a 2-0 victory at Providence in the first round.

The Bearcats kick off the 2008 schedule with an exhibition match against Butler on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium. The regular season gets underway when UC travels to crosstown rival Xavier on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
