BEIJING, China - Former Bearcat Mary Wineberg advanced to the semifinals of the 400 meter dash at the 2008 Olympic Games. Wineberg finished second in her first-round heat in 51.46, slowing near the end when a top-three finish was guaranteed.
Wineberg is one of 24 runners to earn a spot in the semis, which will take place at 9:07 a.m. ET Sunday morning.
All three American entrants in the 400 meters qualified for the semifinals, as world No. 1 Sonya Richards won her heat in 50.54 and DeeDee Trotter held the fastest non-automatic qualifying time at 51.41.
Wineberg, ranked No. 5 in the world entering the Olympic Games, will also compete in the 4x400 meter relay next weekend.
