CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team was named a National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Scholar Team for the 2007-08 season.
The Bearcats posted a 3.54 grade point average during the scholastic year, which ranks No. 18 in the nation.
"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication our team has put forth in the classroom," said head coach Janet Carl. "We strive to meet the three goals of the CATAPULT action plan, and academics is certainly at the forefront."
Four Bearcats individuals have earned All-American Scholar honors during their time at UC, holding 3.5 or greater GPAs. Hillery Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Marianne Erb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) garnered mention for the third time in their careers in 2007-08, while Bambee Dela Paz (Caloocan City, Philipines/Miriam College) and Kate Moore (Shepparton, Australia/Goulburn Valley Grammar) were honored for the first time.
South Alabama held the highest collective average team GPA, which includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 2007-2008 season. South Alabama's seven team members had an average GPA of 3.73.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
