CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team opens its 2008 regular season on Friday, Aug. 22, against Bowling Green at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats will entertain the Wright State Raiders on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.

First-year head coach Michelle Salmon looks for her first win as the Bearcats' mentor against a familiar foe in Mid-American Conference affiliate BGSU. Salmon spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Ball State, where she led the Cardinals to back-to-back MAC championships.

Junior Erin MacDonald (St. Catharine's, Ontario/West Park Secondary), a 2007 second-team all-BIG EAST selection, returns to lead the Bearcats offensive attack. MacDonald led the Bearcats with seven goals, seven assists and 21 points in 2007, becoming the first UC women's soccer player to earn all-BIG EAST honors in the program's three-year affiliation with the powerful soccer league.

Senior captains Kim Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and Lindsey Noteboom (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) anchor an experienced and talented defensive back line.

Junior captain and third-year starter Andrea Kaminski (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) returns in goal for the Bearcats, who are looking for the first BIG EAST Tournament berth in school history.

UC finished its two-match preseason schedule with a 2-0-0 mark, outscoring opponents, 5-1. After a 1-0 win at Western Carolina on Aug. 11, the Bearcats breezed by Central Michigan, 4-1, on Aug. 15. Freshman Julie Morrissey (Abington, Mass./Tabor Academy) scored a pair of goals, as did senior Kristin May (Hudson, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit).

UC will continue a season-opening four-match homestand next weekend when it welcomes regional foe Kentucky and Michigan to Gettler Stadium.
