The University of Cincinnati football team took Saturday off from practice and participated in a morning community service event at Nippert Stadium.

The event served as the 2008 kickoff of the 'Cats In The Community' program. The Bearcats played host to 50 youths from the Angel Tree Network.

The kids were put through a clinic by the UC players and coaches that included individual instruction and various position drills. After the clinic, the Bearcats took time to sign autographs for their visitors.

Following the autograph session, several Bearcats shared personal stories about their lives and football careers encouraging the youngsters to stay in school and keep focused on their dreams.

After a tour of the UC locker room, the group headed off to lunch.

UC returns to the practice field Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Sunday to begin final preparations for the season opener against Eastern Kentucky.

The Bearcats open the 2008 season on Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. against EKU in Nippert Stadium. For tickets and information, call 1-877-CATS-TIX or log on to www.CATSTIX.com.
